The Department is headed, as of November 2023, by Daniela Secci, full professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Sapienza University of Rome.
She received her bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology, cum laude, by discussing a thesis entitled “Kinetic study of the reaction of carbon suboxide with variously substituted 2-hydroxybenzaldoxime.”
Prof. Secci's scientific activity, covers different topics. In particular:
Design, synthesis and biological evaluation of novel epigenetic modulators with special reference to acetyltransferase inhibitors (HATs) with apoptotic and cytodifferentiating activity
Development, extraction, purification, and physical-chemical and functional characterization of monoclonal antibodies and therapeutic proteins in plant platform using Plant Molecular Farming (PMF)
Design synthesis and characterization of composite materials based on metal organic frameworks
Separation by stereo selective HPLC of biologically active chiral molecules
Design, synthesis and activity determination of selective human carbonic anhydrase inhibitors with antitumor activity and hybrid CAI-CORMs compounds with anti-inflammatory activity
Design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of new compounds active on Helicobacter pylori, Candida strains, and other agents
Studies of the synthesis and reaction mechanism of carbon suboxide with different substrates for the formation of molecules with potential biological activity
Studies on the mechanism and anion activation of phase transfer reactions and applications to nucleophilic substitution reactions.
