The Department is headed, starting from November 2020, by Claudio Villani, full professor of organic chemistry since 2006 at the Sapienza University of Rome.

He was appointed as assistant professor at the same University (1988-1998), as associate professor at the “G. D’Annunzio” University of Chieti-Pescara (1998-2002), and as associate professor at the Sapienza University of Rome (2002-2006).

During the years 1993-1994, he was appointed as postdoctoral associate at the School of Chemical Science of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (USA).

He was a member of the Evaluation Committee of the Faculty of Pharmacy (2002-2005) and of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Medicine (2010-2012) and of the Scientific Committee of the Sapienza Federated University SPPS (2005-2008). He has been elected Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Medicine from 2010 to 2020.

During the years 2009-2011, he was a member of the scientific committee of the “A. Corbella” International Summer School on Organic Synthesis and, since 2010, he is member of the executive scientific committee of the “International Symposium on Chirality” series of meetings.
